Shortcut: The adaption of a cell of the Narrenturm to a `hermetic chamber´ refers to hermetic science in which the internees of the Narrenturm were part of an experiment of micro- and macrocosmos. The two beds in the chamber as minimalistic- closed cubes of wax focus on the space these people occupied. The space concept and the idea of the beds was developed with Florian Franz. These two objects together with a printed on panel of wax in the window and the video- animation form the so called `hermetic chamber´. © Hasenhütl Gert 2001
Panel of wax 1. Drawing of the ground- plan.
Originating from the scheme of the primeval ground- plan of the Narrenturm, (the diameter of the building resulting from a simple construction) the drawing on wax forms a sort of paraphrase. The image of an original plan of the Narrenturm is reflected in geometric analogies and experiments in the drawing.
Panel of wax 2. History of psychiatry.
The textpicture as an excerpt of a temple gains transparency by the panel of wax. History as representation of past times in language erects the connecting arch between the pillars of the temple. The canonical progress of perceptions existing next to each other offers neither truth nor conclusion. The pillars support the historical description by excerpts from original quotations based on comprehensive research by Gert Hasenhütl. In the foreground are discrepancies between the work of the doctor, the suffering person in the Narrenturm and the demands of science and goverment. This concept was devised by Birgit Paul. Beds. History of psychiatry. The series of `moulages´ reproduces a vague view of history.
Cubes of wax: hollow, i. e. a cave in of the surface forms a temporary imprint- an imprint of an unknown person. A status of energy is expressedin a bed, i. e. the slackening of heated and enclosed air is contained by a skin of wax. A closed body evokes a hermetic quality by inviting contact and causing curiosity.
